2008 was a red-letter date for the Chuck Taylor. Converse hit the century mark, and to coincide with their anniversary, they wanted to create a project that would both honor the Chuck’s heritage (being drawn on by everyone from teen girls to hipsters – even bored men in meetings) as well as its work with Product RED to supply money to the Global Fund for fighting AIDS, malaria and TB.

Converse asked me to curate designs from 100 different artists, designers, musicians from around the word and across different subcultures and disciplines. There’s high art (Gary Hume and Andrew Mania…) as well as those more street savvy and fashion focused (Ben Drury, Katie Hillier and Basso & Brooke) as well as bands like Matt & Kim. The project’s been immensely rewarding. Probably my favorite to date. After all, it’s been all about celebrating the creative process and the money goes good places… I also got to write about all the designs from students in South Africa to Boston. Here are some of my favorites.
